not as quiet as a church mouse...

Marie has developed the pattern of sitting still in church for approximately 3 minutes and then running for the aisle to go climb up and down the entry steps. On the way down the aisle she enjoys greeting every person she sees with a sweet "hi."

Although adorable, it has become annoying to try to juggle her and and attempt to pay attention to the message. We bring it all - food, books, her baby, juice - nothing is as tempting as those steps.

Our church has a "cry room" but no nursery. Oh how I wish they had a nursery.
The cry room is just filled with kids jumping, talking, crying,
and making every other kid in it as wound up
as possible...and some parents too.

It is not my idea of a religious experience.

So on Sunday, Andy & I decided to keep Marie in church by sitting up close to all the action.

It was working - she was engaged as Andy described everything that was going on during the service. She watched the piano, the choir, read books, had a few snacks, played with her puppy & horse - wow, it was working!
As her chatter would occur and people around us would smile and give us the glance of "oh how cute."
Well, everyone except one lady in our pew.

Every time Marie made a peep she would turn and give us a look. Andy & I both noticed, but shrugged it off. Well we made it through the homily and onto communion. During the preparation of the mass, Marie made a daring walk towards our pew-mate. As soon as she got close, she said "hi" and the lady gave her a big "SHHHH." (finger up by mouth included) I quickly stood up and escorted Marie to the aisle and Andy walked out with her.

I am sure I was bright red. First we laughed, then we got a little mad, and now we are still determined to make this new front row seat ours. Everyone else around us laughed at the "shhh" and gave us an approving nod for our effort.

Don't get me wrong - we were enforcing our own "shh" moments. If at anytime Marie would have been really disrupting the service, we would have taken her out.
But I do not think that a little child-chatter is disruptive.

Maybe our pew-mate should be reminded of a very important verse in Luke:

"Let the little children come to me,
and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."

If you were at our house...

you would see Marie go down the slides at the park all by herself

you would hear Marie reading her "Good Dog, Carl" book
to Charlie on a lazy Saturday morning

and see how close these two really are
you would see Marie concentrate as she built a tower with legos... and hear her laughter as she knocked it over

you would feel the crunchy leaves in your hands
and
under your feet on a Fall morning
you would see Marie & Daddy decorating with sidewalk chalk
you would feel the wind in your hair while swingingand feel the thrill of an underdog
Those are the things you would see, hear, and feel at our house.
They are warm, fun, loud, soft, silly, and comforting.

They are home.

Busy Marie

Things have been very busy for Marie lately.
We have had doctor's appointments, traveling to visit family,
new toys, and enjoying the fall weather.

**It's hard to believe, but we had the 6 month check up with the ENT
this week. Everything looked great, but we were referred to a pediatric
allergist to make sure that we are doing everything we can to make Marie
comfortable with her allergies and asthma.

**The doctor was so quick, we had time to stop at the library.
We hadn't been there since the beginning of August!
Marie walked in and knew exactly where we were.
We found pumpkin and Halloween books,
played with puppets, and the train set.

**Andy thought Marie needed an early Christmas present to
keep her busyas the weather starts to get cooler.

Welcome to Marie's Kitchen!Menu:
Apple with a side of Banana
Pear with corn on the cob
and a book for dessert (or whatever else is lying around)

**We were so busy playing I didn't catch many pictures of
our trip back to N'West Iowa - but the few I snapped are priceless.

Marie with Grandma, busy decorating the drivewayAndy, Alissa, Abby, & Marie reading a good book
**Our new furnace has arrived - it took 6 hours to install so I had a
day at home with Marie while they worked on it.
It was quite noisy, so Marie didn't get the nap she needed.
We stayed busy playing outside in the beautiful fall weather.
She loves to crunch the leaves as we walk
and collect them in her wagon.

I need minute...

It is rare that I post about anything other than our adventures with Marie, but we have had quite a week so far and I just need to share with whoever wants to read this little rant!

Our happy relaxing weekend ended abruptly on Monday with business.
I had an unusually busy day at work - more kids to fix, Andy had rotations and then an appointment with a service guy for our furnace - just to get it checked out.
It turns we need a new furnace - no biggy. We brushed it off and moved on. They will be back on Friday to talk about cost and what type to get.
Hair cut for Andy and "Castle" at 9:00.
Monday down, here we go to Tuesday.

Tuesday night we had Grammy M. over for awhile. She was in town for speech meetings so she helped watch Marie while we got ready for church pictures. Marie had some toddler moments, but pictures turned out great. Hey Tuesday wasn't so bad!

Here comes Wednesday - 15 month well child exam for Marie.
3 shots plus the flu shot and Marie officially given asthma preventative meds that we will need to use every day with the nebulizer.
Sore legs with 4 band aids and a sad girlie :(
Back to daycare for school pictures.
I really hope the Tylenol helped otherwise we will continue the streak of awkward school pictures and she is only 15 months...
Next, I go to 2 IEP meetings which are of course an hour apart.
Make it home for supper and a walk with Char to enjoy the beautiful fall weather.
At 7:00 Andy begins planting bulbs - we have been trying to get this done but it has been so rainy. I go in to give meds to Marie, do bath time, and deal with a few toddler moments.
Andy comes in just in time to watch "Modern Family."
Alright, here comes Thursday.

Thursday at 6:27 a.m. - "ANDY! It is 6:30!!!"
That is me waking up in terror. I had shut the alarm off and we needed to be out of the house by 7:15 at the latest. We are usually up at 5:45.
Meanwhile, Marie had turned on her bedroom light and was entertaining herself with her stuffed animals for who knows how long. Thank goodness she is an early riser!
I never knew I could shower that fast - we were out the door by 7:18!

I make it to work on time, phew, when Andy calls me:
"Guess what? The head light is out on the Equinox."
Of course it is...
A call to our trusted Tuffy guy "Ron" and we are set.

I wonder what Friday will bring?

Meanwhile, here is Charlie - really stressed right?

Happy Home Weekend

What a blessing - an entire weekend for the the four of us to be together and enjoy the beginning of fall. With the cool crisp weather came chicken pot pie, sweatshirts, and pumpkins.
Saturday morning brought a chilly and wet walk on the trail.

What is it about a puddle?
Marie & Charlie are always ready to run through them. With the sudden drop in temperature came the need to play inside.
Legos, books, shopping cart, barnyard, wrestling - we did it all.
(yes, her hair is in pigtails!)

I almost forgot BIG news - Marie is reading!

COYOTES in Minnesota

A perfect day for fall football.

USD 41 - Gophers 38

Go Yotes!
Marie had quality time with Aunt Katie during the game, but she did enjoy some tailgating, too.
So many family members to play with Marie and give her a lot of love and attention.
After another full weekend, we stopped in at Urgent Care with a sleepy and fussy Marie to discover a sinus infection, ear infection, and the dreaded pink eye.
After some antibiotics and a day at home, we are once again ready for the week ahead.
