Visit from Friends

We love it when people come to stay with us so we can show them all the fun things to do around the lakes.
This past week we were able to spend some time with our dear friends the Van Meeteren family.
We started out with dinner, a boat ride, ice cream, and some fun at Arnold's Park.
Piper, Max, and little Jack loved their first time on the boat and they were ready for it to go faster and faster!

The next day after donuts for breakfast, we had some fun at the the splash pad with a picnic lunch.
It was a short visit but we tried to have as much fun as possible during our time and I think we succeeded!

Dickinson County Fair

At then end of May, this scared little calf came into our life and Marie named her "Spot."
We spent the next 8 weeks or so grooming, feeding, leading, watering, and loving up on that calf as we prepared her for fair.
Marie did the majority of the work, but the whole family took part in this little adventure.

She was a feisty calf who grew quickly. She loved Marie and was always "mooing" when we came out to feed her, especially after we weaned her from her milk.
When we finally arrived at fair week, we got her all set up in her place with her food and water, we washed her up, practiced leading in the arena, and finally we arrived at show day.

Marie did a great job leading Spot around the indoor arena with a little help from Dad. During her interview with the judge, she spoke clearly and confidently.
The entire Beef Buddies class did a great job and you could tell just how much work all these kids put into their calves.

After 4 full days of fun at the fair, we had to say our goodbyes to Spot.
It was very difficult for Marie. She has one of the softest hearts for animals I've ever known and her heart only grew softer with her love for Spot.
Not only did she love Spot, but she took full responsibility for this cow. We were so proud of Marie as she shoveled the stalls, cleaned the feed and water bowls, and learned how to lead this cow. We had a scary night where Spot needed the attention of the vet for pneumonia. We were all so frightened but it was pretty remarkable to see Marie take charge that night.
So, with a tearful goodbye and one last trip to the hay, we said Spot was off on her new adventure to a farm near Rock Rapids.

Triathlon

This weekend we had a great time watching Andy and Nathan participate in the triathlon in Okoboji.
As Andy crossed the finish line, the boys took off running after him.
This is such a fun event and it's amazing to see all the athletes.

Duluth Vacation

After our busy 4th of July weekend, we took off for a trip to Duluth, MN with the Dickes family.

Northern Minnesota is one of our favorite places and it once again did not disappoint.
We enjoyed time hiking around Gooseberry Falls, eating pies from the best pie stand, swimming in the hotel pool, throwing rocks and climbing rocks around the shore, visiting the aquarium, watching the large cargo ships go under the lift bridge, and eating many great meals!
This was a packed trip in just a few short days but we had a fabulous time!

Busy Indpendence Day

This post is a major photo drop!
What a fun celebration we had over the 4th of July.
We swam, played with Ryan & Allie, boated, watched fireworks, set off fireworks, and had BBQs with friends and family.

The 4th of July in Okoboji is so much fun and there is no way you can enjoy it all but we tried our best! We even fit in an adult fun night at a concert!
